The Employee Spotlight series is a monthly blog where we get up-close and personal with some of the amazing team members we have here at Platinum Standard Grading.
For this month's Employee Spotlight, we spoke to Former General Manager, Chris Bilston.
What was the first pack of cards you purchased and how long have you been collecting?
1994 Dynamic Rugby League. A pack was $2.50 and came out from one of those old vending machines where you put the coin in the slot and push with your palm.
What product do you look forward to each year?
My favourite set of all time is Topps Chrome so whenever they bring out a new line, doesn't matter if it's Star Wars or F1 I'll buy it. Massive fan of Optic and Court Kings in the NBA, Select NFL and NRL Elite.
When did you realise you wanted to make the hobby into your career?
Probably mid 2019. I had been buying and selling Sneakers and Lego for about 5 years and a couple of my mates discovered breaks online and it was a buzz watching them hit big cards.
What does a day at work look like for you?
Well Rob stole my job at PSG when I was on a work trip in the States so basically just do what he tells me to do now. In all seriousness, I'm currently working on a lot of exciting projects including bidding for an NBL license on the Gold Coast, and planning for a multi-purpose arena and entertainment precinct.
What's an interest you have outside of the card industry?
Sport and business are both passions of mine so I'm always looking a ways to combine the two. Buying and selling sneakers and Lego also take up a lot of my spare time.
